DONATION-BASED CROWDFUNDING A NEW SPRINGBOARD FOR CHARITY

Almost no day passes without an article being written about a touching donation story by crowdfunding platform. You have noticed that donation-based crowdfunding platforms have multiplied and are meeting success. Fundraise for cancer care, burial of accident victims, helping people after a natural disaster, many campaigns encourage people to help each other and even allowing some to exceed their necessary budget. As last sample, the Armstrong family's original $20,000 target reaching more than $79,000. Some campaigns, however, are unwelcome, such as the campaign for Kelly Jenner become world’s youngest Billionaire or the one of a man wishing to bury his victims whom he killed in a car accident ; both were quickly removed.

Donations numbers on internet increase, especially in Australia. As example, the donation rate on GoFundMe has simply doubling, $145 million were raise across more than 70,000 campaigns, with Melbourne being the most generous city ahead of Sydney and Brisbane. This, is made possible by professional platforms which allow to create transparent and engaging campaigns.
Nevertheless, a majority of donation crowdfunding platforms are specialised in regional aid , "local to help local". Indeed, according to University of Queensland researcher Cassandra Chapman, these platforms allow through the campaigns, to get to know the recipient, to recognize himself in his history and to develop more empathy than a standard charity donation.

Local fundraisers are becoming increasingly popular and peer-to-peer fundraising is beginning to disrupt traditional philanthropy. A new competition is opening, but we already know the winner, humanity.
